CARA AND KEVIN

Meet Cara and Kevin

It’s amazing to feel like I can put on a pretty much any pair of pants in my closet or any shirt and not be concerned if it’s a good fit, is it going to tug in the wrong spot. I mean I went for a good six months’ to a year of my life without actually putting on a pair of pants that buttoned. I lived in leggings because I was too ashamed to do otherwise and from coming to Metabolic Meltdown that has all changed.

Tell Us About Yourselves. My name is Cara Wilson. I’m 36 years old and I’ve been coming to Metabolic Meltdown for a year. And my name is Kevin Wilson. I’m 36 years old and I’ve been coming to Metabolic Meltdown for about four months.
Cara: Kevin and I are both teachers and we both have side jobs and have two small kids at home, an 8-year-old and a four-year-old, so finding time to get to the gym sometimes can be a little…..crazy. It gets hectic for sure but Metabolic Meltdown has classes early enough for me and late enough for him and it made it much easier for us to be able to fit fitness into the crazy schedule that is life sometimes.
Kevin: She goes in the morning and then I go after school so we have time for both of us to go. I’m an elementary phys ed teacher and so I’ve done a lot of different workouts but nothing like I’ve done here at Metabolic and which is really awesome for me because that’s the motivation factor that keeps me coming back.

Tell Us About Your Experience with Fitness and Gyms Cara: I’ve always just been against gym a little bit so I work out home, I’ve done a half marathon, things like that. I don’t have necessarily have the fitness background that he has but I’ve always exercised. A friend of mine told me about Metabolic Meltdown probably six months before I actually made the jump to come. I remember just having a conversation with her and her telling me look at my abs, look at my arms, like this all happened in six months….this is place is crazy you have to come. And so we live in Guilderland so I make the drive to Green Island every morning at 5am and that seemed a bit much to me and she said just give me a week I swear you won’t regret it. So I did and never stopped.
Kevin: So, I actually hate gyms and I hate classes, so I actually had no intention of joining a gym that has classes. We had a school break where we weren’t working and I just decided to come down with her one morning and since the first workout I knew this place was different and after the first workout I was sore for about three days and had a hard time walking down the stairs so I knew this was something different and it was very big motivation for me to come back. It’s easy to get excited about gyms the first couple weeks or the first couple months, but this place motivates you to come back for a long time. It’s not just a quick fix gym and it’s not a gym where you just have a membership and show up a couple times. The people know you here and they expect you to be here and know about you personally and that motivates me to come back, especially the people around you I said I don’t like classes but when I come in here, the people that are working hard to my left and my right really motivates me to work harder.

Tell Us Your Experience with Metabolic Meltdown Cara: I definitely think this workout is second to none, I’ve never experienced anything like it. The beauty of it is and I remember being terrified my first time coming after hearing what the workouts where like I thought, there was no way I’d be able to keep up. But you know you come in and you talk to Matt or Lynsey or Drew or Will, whoever your trainer is that day and we have a quick conversation with them, they find out things about you and they tailor the workout to you and you’re able to sort of work to your highest potential all the time. They’re always changing your weights, they’re always pushing you go to harder and faster and longer. They learn what motivates each of their clients and they use that every morning and what motivates me does necessarily motivate the person to my left or to my right and they know that about each of us. They take the time to get to know us and that’s motivating it’s almost like you want to do your best, they teach you to want to do your best for you but you also want to your best for them because they’re busting their butts for you every morning as much as you’re busting your butts for them.
Kevin: What I love about this place is that you’re never going to do the same workout twice and we come here for three months and you may do some same exercises but its constant muscle confusion, its constantly throwing your body off. When you think you got something down Matt throws a curveball and changes it up. For me it’s definitely physically demanding but it’s also that I will push myself harder because I don’t have the internal drive to do this on my own. I couldn’t do workouts like this on my own like five, six days a week… Coming here is she like said it’s kind of a hike for us but we love it so much because we know it’s going to be worth our while to drive down here we know we have busy-busy lifestyles and we know that even as overwhelming as I may get, my brains going, what I need to get done, what’s going to happen today or tomorrow. It’s when you’re on your own way down here it’s like game time put all that to the side and for me mentally it’s almost like a release so that come in, I can get here, you know you’re going to work hard, you know you’re going to get pushed and I’m kind of unplugged from the outside world for-for 45 minutes and to me that’s definitely worth it and that’s my motivation to keep on coming back every day, that’s my motivation to stay with it. It’s just well worth it for both of us and we honestly have never really found a gym that’s worth it for both of us to join to pay the money to continue to come.

Have You Seen Results Since Joining? Cara: I was definitely overweight, and putting on gym pants was a little traumatic for me and having a tank top on my arms hanging out, but the thing about these classes and people and not just the trainers because they’re amazing and they’re here to support you and lift you up and push you but the people you come in contact with in the class…you become a family and people lift each other up. It’s not like other gyms where people are kind of walking by and you get side looks or whatever it’s not like that. It’s people coming up to you in the morning ‘You look great, I can see your body’s changing’ or you know ‘you look great today way to kill that work out’. I mean you become a family and you’re in the locker room when you’re chatting and now all of a sudden you’re talking to someone and you know about their family and their grandkids. You know there’s people here of all different ages and we’ve all come together to be a family, your class becomes your family and there’s so much support both emotionally, physically. You never feel like you’re being looked down upon you can just let go and bust you butt without wondering what the person next to you or behind you or in front of was thinking. When I first started Metabolic Meltdown, I was definitely overweight and not comfortable in my own skin and in the first few months of being here I definitely saw changes that were noticeable to me with my body but after being here for a while I’ve definitely seen my whole body has changed and I am finally feeling comfortable in my own skin. It’s insane that I am sad if I have to miss a day. I literally do anything in my power to make sure that I don’t miss a day of classes. I mean anything I can possible do to not to miss my class.
